SLJ week 2 day 2 #2
Climate Change
Is one of the biggest problems facing the world.
Isn’t being addressed quickly enough.
Is a threat to our future.
I support the Prime Minister’s views on climate change and think she will lead the change that needs to take place.
This is the Franz Joseph Glacier which is about 2 hours drive away and it is melting away with Climate Change.
SLJ week 2 day 1 #3
Dear Prime Minister, Jacinta Ardern
I think you are a very down to earth Prime Minister for our country so I am hoping that you might be able to have some input to the problem I am writing about.
I live in a small town called Ross on the West Coast in the South Island. Ross is a Gold town and attracts lots of visitors and tourists. Our local councils have spent a lot of money getting things up and running for these visitors. We have amazing Wilderness trails, fantastic bike tracks and we are even having some awesome public toilets built. I feel proud to be able to speak of these things, however, there is one issue that desperately needs attention and that is what I am writing to you about.
My parents pay rates for our property and while they get to see all the tourist upgrades happening, they are not seeing projects happen that will benefit us. I am talking about our footpaths! They are in such a poor condition, that locals walk on the road because it is easier to walk on (it is certainly now safer though). People with mobility scooters can’t ride on them because they are so uneven, rough and full of potholes. Several people have fallen over on them because of their terrible condition.
I know we have to look after the tourists because they bring money into our country, but what about the local people who fund these projects? Surely they are entitled to have a safe environment around their homes. This is a photo of the state of the footpaths.
Thank you for reading my letter and I hope you can help me do something about our footpath problems.
From Bella.
